Rochester Sensors – Always Innovating, Never Imitating.
In 1913, the company began operations with their first liquid level gauge as “Rochester Manufacturing” located in Rochester, New York.
In 1958, Gas Equipment Company, a distributor of propane-related parts and supplies, purchased Rochester’s propane gauge line and moved it to Dallas, Texas creating “Rochester Gauges”. Rochester Gauges was successful with the propane gauge line and later expanded and acquired the remaining product lines from Rochester Manufacturing and expanded its manufacturing capabilities into Mexico, Belgium and China.
In 2022, Rochester Gauges changed its name to “Rochester Sensors”. The name change was prompted by organic growth and acquisition of sensor companies serving multiple markets with capacitive, radar and ultrasonic technologies. As a result, Rochester now has additional facilities in UK and Ireland.
In 2023, corporate headquarters and Dallas manufacturing relocated to a new facility in Coppell, TX.
In 2025, Rochester was purchased by Amphenol Corporation (NYSE: APH), one of the world’s largest providers of high-technology interconnect, sensor and antenna solutions.
Today, Rochester continues to operate as a stand-alone business within Amphenol while retaining its name “Rochester Sensors” and headquarters in Coppell, Texas, USA, with manufacturing facilities in Coppell, Texas USA; Mexico City, Mexico; Brussels, Belgium; Warwick, UK; Shannon, Ireland; and Shanghai, China.
As one of the first companies to develop a liquid level gauge for the propane industry, Rochester continues to be a leading innovator not only in the commercial and residential propane market but also in remote monitoring of bulk and transport tanks of fuels, lubes and chemicals. Rochester technologies also enable liquid level measurements of mission-critical fluids & fuels, including gasoline, diesel, coolant, oil, water and commercial refrigerants.
Rochester products are used in many different applications across the world, such as construction and agriculture equipment, power generators, automotive, marine engines, forklifts, RVs, lawn and garden equipment, personal aircraft, compressors, and electric vehicles (EVs). Rochester’s products include liquid level gauges, liquid level sensors, liquid level senders, liquid level switches, aircraft fuel and engine instrumentation, diaphragm temperature sensors, pressure sensors, bimetal thermometers-electrical system safety disconnect switches, and flow sensors.
Many features of gauges and sensors used in various industries today can be contributed to innovations developed by Rochester over the last 100 years.
